King of France 1824 - 1830. Last son of the dauphin, Louis and Marie - Josephe de Saxe.He was born at the chateau of Versailles and was the grandson of Louis XV.
Charles X left France in 1789 after the uprising and storming of the Bastille. He assumed command of a body of emigrants, acting in concert with Austrian and Prussian armies in the Rhine. Having no success, he moved to Holyrood Palace, Edinburgh, staying for several years before returning to France at the restoration of the monarchy succeeding his brother Louis XVIII as King. In 1830, the revolution forced him from the throne and his grandson, the Comte de Chambord, claimed the throne as heir.
