King of France 1547 - 1559.Son of François Ier, he married the infamous and notorious poisoner Catherine de Medicis. After a protracted war with England, he fought and took back Boulogne and Calais, the last British foothold in France.
His life was dominated by his beautiful older mistress, Diane de Poitiers, and he bought her the chateau of Chenonceaux, which, after his death was taken from her by Catherine, the jealous wife. During the wedding of his eldest daughter Elizabeth to Philippe II of Spain, he took part in a jousting tournament and during a bout with Lord Montgomery, Captain of the Scottish Guard, he was fatally wounded by a splinter from a broken lance.
