Charles VII 1403 - 1461.

King of France 1422 - 1461. Son of Charles VI and Isabel of Bavaria.

Although crowned King, he only succeeded to the southern provinces because Henry VI of England had been proclaimed King of France whilst in Paris. Henry placed France in hands of the Duke of Bedford who’s undoubted political and governmental ability had Charles almost to the point of abandoning his claims.

This was the time for Joan of Arc, the maid of Orléans to come onto the scene. She won the support of the King and led his armies to lift the siege of Orléans and turn the tide against the English, who eventually lost all their gains and possessions in France and left retaining only Calais.
