YOUR FAVOURITE WINES, UK TAX FREE
If you holiday in France, you probably have a favourite local vineyard and a supply of wine back home. But what happens when your favourite tipple runs out? You can’t drive all the way just to stock up and thanks to the recent ruling by the European Court, you can't have the wine delivered to your home without paying high UK taxes and handling charges.
Now, a new web site, wineonwheels.co.uk, invites buyers to have their favourite wines delivered to Calais so they can collect them on a cheap day trip. The new service is for members of on-line wine club, winedrive.com. Said UK director, Dave Spokes: "Most vineyards will deliver wine in France for a small charge or even free for bulk orders. We already have this arrangement in place for producers on our lists, but there are so many vineyards in France, we decided to enable our members to use it for their own favourite wines."
Wineonwheels.co.uk allows the discerning wine lover to pay the same low vineyard prices they enjoyed on holiday plus a small delivery charge. Added Dave Spokes: "The collection point charges just half a Euro or about 34p per bottle for storage, so even with delivery, collecting from Calais is lot less than paying high UK taxes and handling.
"It is also more reliable than taking a chance on what happens to be in stock at a 'booze cruise' discount warehouse." Winedrive club members also have access to on-line lists of more than 110 award winning vineyards offering over 1,000 fine wines.
